About Us
Luthemba Lethu Community Project is a registered Nonprofit Organisation (NPO) and is also registered with the SARS Tax Exempt Unit as a Public Benefit Organisation (PBO), approved for purposes of Section 18A.
The organisation is governed by a committed board of volunteers who meet regularly to ensure accountability, transparency, and faithful stewardship of the vision entrusted to us.
“Luthemba Lethu” means “Our Hope.”
This name reflects the heart of our mission — bringing hope, restoration, leadership, and purpose to individuals, families, schools, and communities.
Where It Began
Our journey started in 2006 when we began outreach work at the Modderbee Correctional Centre. During this time, we quickly realized that traditional outreach programs were not producing lasting transformation in the lives of offenders.
In 2007, André Roodt, together with church members, staff from Modderbee Correctional Centre, and leadership from the Kempton Park Police Station, traveled to Argentina to study a successful rehabilitation model being used in correctional centres. This model had reduced the recidivism rate from 50% to just 5%.
Inspired by what they witnessed, the church adopted this approach and soon grew into a movement of more than 50 volunteers and full-time staff members serving seven days a week within the correctional centre environment. Today, this leg of the program continues through the church and dedicated volunteer teams.
Expanding Our Impact
As the work grew, it became clear that true transformation begins long before someone enters a correctional facility. Prevention, mentorship, and leadership development among young people became essential.
In 2011, LLCP expanded its focus into two additional areas:
Life Coaching & School Leadership
We introduced full-time life coaches into both primary and high schools to help positively influence school culture, mentor learners, and provide leadership development, emotional support, and spiritual guidance.
Our life coaches work closely with learners, teachers, parents, and school leadership to create healthier school environments, encourage positive behaviour, strengthen discipline, and help learners discover purpose, confidence, and hope.
Leadership & Development Camps
We established a campsite ministry where learners can attend leadership camps, personal development programs, and transformational experiences designed to inspire growth, discipline, purpose, and hope.
Our Mission
We are committed to building stronger communities by:
- Developing leadership and character in young people
- Assisting learners with positive behavioural change
- Supporting schools facing discipline and social challenges
- Partnering with police youth desk programs to mentor and guide youth
- Creating safe environments where hope, purpose, and restoration can flourish
